My Portfolio Website - V1

This website represents my first venture into creating a personal portfolio — my digital playground where I'm stretching beyond my PHP backend comfort zone to explore frontend development and other languages. Built with vanilla HTML, CSS, and TypeScript/JavaScript, I'm experimenting with dynamic UI rendering and the IntersectionObserver API to create simple scroll interactions. As a primarily backend developer, translating my design ideas into working frontend code has been challenging but incredibly rewarding. This portfolio website will showcase my evolution as a developer and will grow alongside my skills. Expect regular updates as I refine the UI/UX and implement new techniques I learn along the way!

Me

Hey there! I'm Gabriel Doronio Oprin

I'm a PHP junior backend developer who loves working with Laravel to build powerful APIs. Most of my experience revolves around creating the "engine" that drives web applications - the part users don't see and appreciate but definitely feel when it works smoothly.

What I Do

My main focus is developing robust APIs that connect systems and make applications work seamlessly. I've worked on projects involving RESTful APIs and have experience with single-page applications. While I primarily identify as a backend developer, I sometimes venture into fullstack territory. I'll be honest - UI design isn't my strongest suit (I usually reach for frontend libraries to help me out), but that just means I really appreciate good frontend developers!

My Approach

I believe in writing clean, maintainable code that makes life easier for everyone involved. Documentation matters to me, and I'm always looking to improve my skills and learn new technologies.

Currently, I'm expanding my knowledge in vanilla PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript because I feel there's too much "magic" in the tools I'm currently using, and it feels like I've skipped over important abstractions and overall fundamentals. Additionally, I'm learning game development as a hobby so that I won't get burned out with coding, which I'm pretty excited about.

Education

Quezon City University 2018-2022

I attended Quezon City University in the Philippines and earned a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology because I believed IT professionals had higher earning potential at the time. Although I didn't have a strong passion for technology initially, I chose this program with a practical mindset focused on future financial stability. I persevered and completed my degree with average academic standing. My passion for technology and programming emerged after landing my first job, and my drive to learn and excel in this field continues to grow thanks to senior developers that I met who became my inspirations.
